Flagship's software business
has been established around the sales and support of
the SHIPS system. SHIPS is one of the world's leading
commercially available software systems for steamship
lines and their agents. SHIPS provides support for Ro/Ro,
Containerized and Break Bulk Operations and spans the
full range of user requirements.
The first installations of SHIPS began in the UK in
the early 1980s. Since these early installations, SHIPS
has been successfully installed in locations around
the world including Australia, New Zealand, Canada,
the United States, Norway and the Far East.
Since its inception SHIPS has continually
been enhanced to keep pace with the ever changing
world of hardware, computer interfaces and specific
user requirements, and Flagship is committed to expanding
its product line and providing its clients with the
highest level of support.
Flagship's shipping software development
team is staffed by people with extensive experience
in the development of custom designs for the ocean
shipping industry.
Below is a brief overview of the
currently available modules within SHIPS. Modules
may be installed separately or as a complete package
at our Virtual Host Service or Inhouse at our customers
locations.
System Maintenance
The System Maintenance module is
a central core of tables which contain regularly used
information, e.g. Vessel Codes, Customer Names &
Addresses, etc. This information can then be used
to reduce the amount of typing required in other modules,
and to validate information as it is entered.
Quotations
The Quotation module contains a
tariff look-up function, enabling the shipping line
to provide immediate quotes for the shipment of goods.
The module also allows for the entry of indicated
rates, and notes. The information in quotations can
then be used to generate bookings.
Bookings
The Bookings module allows bookings
to be created, amended, canceled and deleted. Bookings
can also be created using the copy or transfer function.
Once the booking is created this information can be
used to automatically create the core of a Bill of
Lading, which the user can then add specific bill
of lading information to. A number of reports and
prints are also
available including Booking Confirmations, Booking
Lists, Load Lists, etc.
Documentation
The Documentation module is a combination
of Exports and Imports. The system is able to determine
using sailing ports and user IDs whether bills of
lading are export or import and only allows users
in the country of origin to create or amend bills
of lading without creating Manifest Correctors. This
module also produces similar reports and prints as
the Exports and Imports modules. This module is of
particular interest to companies wishing to install
an international system.
Equipment Control
The Equipment Control module is
designed to track the containers and chassis used
by the shipping line. It can be configured for either
an agent or a line, to track equipment locally or
worldwide. Included are per diem and demurrage billing
modules. The system will track owned and leased equipment,
and will compare it's inventory to lease company invoices
to ensure accurate billing. Equipment control can
be linked to the bookings, documentation and
accounting modules.
Utilities
The Utilities module contains miscellaneous
functions which control access to the SHIPS functions,
e.g. Menu/Operator Maintenance, Device Type Maintenance,
etc.
Accounting Modules
SHIPS provides the shipping agent
or line with an accounting package designed around
the specific financial requirements of the shipping
industry. It includes a General Ledger (including
budgeting, financial and voyage reporting capabilities),
freight and non-freight Receivable ledgers, and Payables,
Brokerage and Freight Payable ledgers. The Accounting
modules
can be linked to the Documentation and Equipment Control
modules.
SHIPS*AMS and SHIPS*AES
The SHIPS*AMS and SHIPS*AES modules
allows data from within SHIPS or outside packages
to be processed and sent to US Customs to conform
with the new requirements for electronic manifest
submission, paperless inbound capabilities and automated
terminal release decision.
CANADA*ACI
Tha Canada*ACI system allows data
from within SHIPS or outside package to be processed
and sent to Canada Customs (CBSA)ACI sytem to confirm
the latest requirements for electronic manifest submission,
paperless inbound capabilities and automated terminal
release decision.
EDI
SHIPS supports a variety of EDI
X12 transactions including 322 (gate move), 304 (shippers
instructions) and 309/310 (Bill of Lading details).
These can be used to automatically create Bookings,
Bills of Lading and equipment moves in the system.
Reporting and Inquiry
All SHIPS modules have a full range
of reporting and inquiry capabilities which will produce
all legal documentation together. All reports can
be printed to the screen, printer, or captured to
an ASCII file to be imported into other applications
(e.g. Spreadsheets), or can be faxed out of service
center.
User Friendly Interface
SHIPS provides users with an easy
to use friendly interface, using state of the art
techniques such as pop-up windows, pull-down menus,
and display and tag or point and shoot data selection.
These techniques allow SHIPS users to enter data efficiently
and accurately without having to remember data codes
or navigate through endless data screens and menus.
In addition SHIPS comes pre-loaded with an on-line
help screen at each field, which can be expanded by
authorized users to include client specific help.
Security
System security is maintained through
a user login and password. Users are able to change
their passwords at will and passwords are displayed
on the screen as XXX. Menus are also created based
on user names. Each user can be given a menu only
containing the specific functions they require, thereby
reducing the possibility of errors by using the incorrect
function.
